Skein Gang Membership Guide

Guide

General Guidelines:

1. Attendance & Punctuality

  • Be ready on time: Be prepared 10-15 minutes before the raid. You must be ready 5 minutes before. Delays impact the entire team and are disrespectful.
  • Filling spots when absent: If a static member is unavailable 5 minutes before start time, the team can seek out a fill.
  • Late arrivals & mid-wing fills: If a wing has started and a static member arrives late, they must wait until the end of the wing to join. Do not remove fills unless they are okay with sitting out.
  • Attendance expectations: You should attend 75-80% of the time (ideally more). If a static member misses 3 weeks in a row, they may be removed.

2. Communication & Team Consideration

  • Real life comes first: If you cannot attend, give your team as much notice as possible using your team’s channel.
  • You must communicate: Keeping your team informed is essential.
  • Filling expectations: If you need a fill, express your expectations clearly. You do not have to accept inexperienced players or those who do not meet role requirements.
  • Misleading about experience: If someone misrepresents their experience level, you may politely let them go and direct them to resources in the guild. Repeated dishonesty may lead to removal from the community.

3. Performance & Improvement

  • Continuous improvement: Static members must actively seek improvement, whether by asking for help, studying outside of raid time, or reviewing logs. Those who fail to improve may be removed.
  • Logs as a tool: Logs are encouraged as a tool to improve but are not required except for HTCM, Cerus (Febe), and Competitive teams.
  • Trial period for new members: New members have a 3-week "trial" period to assess fit and engagement. If they do not show improvement or cultural fit, they may be removed. Contact a moderator if you have concerns.

4. Rules for Recruitment & Experience Checks

  • No "KillProof" (KP) requests: You cannot request KP in the discord or statics. However, you can ask for experienced players.
    • Due to the complexity of the encounters, HTCM and ToF teams may ask for logs.
  • Honesty when filling positions: When seeking a fill, be honest about your experience level, available roles, and boss knowledge.

In-Game Guild

The in-game guild almost always has around 500 members. Because of the 500 member limit, priority will be assigned as follows:

  1. Static Representatives
  2. People who are active in the guild in-game
  3. People who are active in the discord.

Individual Expectations as a Raider on a Static Team

New Players

1. Build & Gear Preparation

  • Use an appropriate raid build: Select your profession's build from Snow Crows or Hardstuck.
  • Follow recommended gear, utility, and food: Use the above resources to determine the appropriate gear, utility skills, and food for your build.
  • Minimum gear requirements: You must have at least Exotic (orange) gear and be actively working toward Ascended (magenta) gear.
  • Always bring your own food and utility: Do not assume feasts or ascended food will be provided. Static Reps should have access to ascended feasts via their in-game guild role.

2. Research & Continuous Learning

  • Review raid guides: New players should watch videos and read guides for the raid wings their team is working on. This is an ongoing responsibility for all raiders.
    • Recommended: Snow Crows guides and YouTube videos from reputable sources.
    • Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
    • You can find a full list of resources we like here.
  • Work on your rotation & CC skills: Your rotation and crowd control (CC) skills are included in your build resources. Learn and refine them.
    • The Special Forces Training Area is near the bank vault in Lion’s Arch Aerodrome (south of Fort Marriner).
    • You can ask for help in the #🪑︱do-you-bench channel for rotation, damage, and gearing issues.
  • Weekly improvement goal: New raiders should aim for at least 70% of their build’s benchmark DPS over time. This is an individual goal, and improvement is expected weekly.

3. Performance Tracking & ArcDPS

  • Install ArcDPS (optional but recommended):
    • ArcDPS helps analyze your rotations and performance, even on a training golem.
    • Logs are often required when seeking help in SG Raid Help channels.
  • Enable logging in ArcDPS:
    • Open settings (ALT + SHIFT + T) → Navigate to the "Logs" tab → Enable logging.
    • Upload logs to DPSReport or GW2 Wingman for analysis.
  • Need help setting up ArcDPS? Ask in #🪑︱do-you-bench on the SG Discord.

4. Team Communication & Integration

  • Introduce yourself to your team: Share your gaming experience (raiding or otherwise) to help your team understand your background.
  • Communicate & ask questions: Your teammates want you to succeed. Engage with them to integrate smoothly into the team.
  • Take initiative: Don’t wait for others to reach out to you—be proactive in getting involved before raid night to avoid frustration.

5. Honesty & Filling for Other Teams

  • Be upfront when filling: If you’re subbing for another team, be honest about your experience level and knowledge of the fight.

6. Mindset & Enjoyment

  • Above all, have fun! Raiding is a challenge that requires commitment, but it should always be an enjoyable experience. Embrace the journey and the camaraderie!

Veteran Players – Your Role in SG

Everything expected of new players also applies to you.

The SG community aims to make endgame PvE accessible to as many people as possible. As a veteran raider, striker, or fractaller, you are expected to:

1. Support & Guide New Players

  • Be a resource - Share your knowledge and experience to help others improve.
  • Engage with new members - They may feel anxious or intimidated; make them feel welcome.
  • Offer help - Even if you're not an expert in everything, you can guide them to useful resources.
  • Be patient - Learning takes time.

2. Encourage Growth & Learning

  • Expect mistakes and failures – This is part of the process.
  • Follow up on mechanics – After the raid or before the next session, take time to explain issues.

3. Respect Static Teams When Filling

  • Do not question the team’s strategies or compositions during the raid.
  • If you have suggestions, share them with the commander after the raid.

Team Leadership Roles

Skein Gang does not expressly dictate who will lead a static team. We do our best to place a mix of veteran and new players on teams, and Leaders typically emerge naturally as the team members interact and self-organize. Over time, leadership typically coalesces in the following three roles:

  • Comm/Commander - leads the raid and calls mechanics.
  • Admin - Sets the team's goals and works with the Comm to set raid comps. Submits boss logs.
  • Strategist - Helps evaluate the team's logs and develop strategies. They can also help explain new strategies or refine existing strategies.

These do not have to be three individuals, but we recommend that more than one person take on these roles.

Statics

Skein Gang has static teams for all types of PvE content. You can learn more about them on Discord or here.
