Getting Through It: Gorseval

Guide

Team Composition

Two subgroups of five, the same Necromancer-heavy core you have run all wing.

Team Comp

Healers / Quickness:
2x Heal Quickness Troubadour, one per subgroup.

Alacrity:
2x Celestial Alacrity Scourge, one per subgroup for alacrity and barrier.

DPS:
6x Power Ritualist, three per subgroup.

  • There is some flexibility in the damage slots, but stacking Ritualists is what makes this fight easy, so bring as many as you can.

Why this comp:
Gorseval has two mechnics that will impact DPS, his knockback slam and his breakbar, and this comp answers both without anyone thinking hard.

The Power Ritualist F4 skill grants Aegis and Stability to the group, so his slam knockbacks simply stop mattering as long as the Ritualists keep it up.
On top of that: Eight Necromancers all carry Flesh Golem and the Troubadours bring Signet of the Moa.

The twin Troubadours blanket the squad in healing and barrier mechanics do not snowball into a wipe while people are still learning.

Setup

Use ALT+1 to place an arrow marker to the left of Gorseval and ALT+2 to place a circle marker to the right.

  • Sub 1 goes to Arrow
  • Sub 2 goes to Circle.

You will use those same two markers every split phase, so set them before you pull and everyone always knows where their half of the team belongs.

Gors Map2
Diagram 1: Top-down arena map showing the arrow marker on Gorseval's left and the circle marker on his right, the four spirit spawn positions for the split, and the outer walls with their updrafts.

Phase 1 (100% to 66%)

Ride the updraft to glide up to the main platform. - You can stand on the edge without pulling aggro.
Once you are inside his aggro radius, Gorseval fixates on the highest-toughness player, which is the Troubadour with high toughness.
He opens with a swipe and then a slam. - That slam knocks the group back, so your Ritualists need to provide stability for it.

When Gorseval raises his breakbar, everyone hits their Elite (Flesh Golem / Signet of the Moa) to break it, continuing to do damage.
Push him to 66 percent.

If you do not have enough damage to get Gorseval to 66% fast enough he will do a team-wipe attack: World Eater.

If you think that you cannot get him to 66% before it is fully charged, you must go to the outer edge and kill one of the surrounding walls.
Once the wall is dead everyone has to glide out to the updraft outside of the arena, stay there until the World Eater has finished, then glide back to the arena.

Split Phase

Gorseval becomes immune to damage and four Spirits appear around the platform, one on each marker.

  • Sub 1 goes to the arrow marker
  • Sub 2 goes to the circle marker
  • Killing the spirit at their marker first, then moving to the adjacent spirit in line with their side.

If a spirit reaches the center and merges into Gorseval he starts his World Eater attack and the encounter fails.Kill all four and he becomes vulnerable again.

Gors Split

Phase 2 (66% to 33%)

Phase 2 plays like Phase 1 with one addition: Spectral Darkness aka Orbs.
These are large blue orbs with an expanding area of effect, and if it touches you it applies 10 stacks of Spectral Darkness, where each stack lowers your damage by 10 percent and raises your damage taken by 10 percent.

Keep the F4 stability rolling for his slams, break his bar with your Elites, avoid the orbs, and push to 33 percent, then run the same split as before.

Gors Spectral Darkness

Split Phase

Same split as last time.

  • Sub 1 to arrow
  • Sub 2 to circle
  • Kill your spirit then the adjacent one, and chill them so none reaches the center.

The only new wrinkle is that the orbs may still be floating around, so mind your footing on the way to your spirits.

Phase 3 (33% to 0%)

Phase 3 is Phase 2 with the last mechanic layered on: Ghastly Prison aka "eggs."
These are small areas that spawn under players' feet, and if you are standing in one when it forms you get locked into your skill 1 slot, losing access to everything else.

From here it is the whole toolkit at once, keep the F4 stability up for the slams, break the bar with elite skills, avoid spectral darkness, tap 1 out of any eggs, and burn Gorseval down to finish him.

If you're wiping, check these first

Getting knocked back constantly?

  • Your Ritualists are not alternating F4, so the stability are on cooldown when the slam lands.
  • Ensure the two Ritualists in each sub stagger their F4 so the group is always covered.

Gorseval keeps triggering World Eater in the split?

  • A spirit is reaching the center.
  • Chill the spirits to slow them and make sure each sub kills its marker spirit first, then the adjacent one, so none slips through to him.
  • Ritualist Greatsword 5 (Grasping Darkness), Spear 3 (Addle) and 4 (Isolate) are all skills that apply either chill or immobilize on the adds to ensure they don't reach Gosseval.

Everyone doing chip damage and dying slowly?

  • You are eating Spectral Darkness stacks from the orbs.
  • Damage the blue orb, collect both yellow orbs to clear all 10 stacks, and stop standing in the expanding blue field.

Players stuck spamming one skill and confused?

  • That is Ghastly Prison, the eggs.
  • If you are locked to skill 1, just press 1 until you pop out of the egg, then resume your rotation.

Not making the 66/33 percent damage check?

  • Check your DPS builds and gear.
  • The 15k dps is the Minimum needed and should be easily obtainable on Ritualist.
  • It should be the upmost least resort to break an outer wall and ride the updraft to glide over the World Eater attack, then land and keep pushing.
